How come savings disappear

Yesterday i went to the laundrymat and there was this pleasant guy drying his work clothes. So I soon found out this guy works out bush for three months and then comes into town to sort things out, and goes bush again.  After a bit of chatter he said he had an appointment at the Bank as he wanted to get a loan, having sold his house, and the bank employee asks "where has your money gone"?  Now 43 years old this guy is questioning his future and is being advised to set up a special savings account.  These are the people who reinforced the need for me to put simple planning ideas on paper and get this book out there.  It is food for thought.
