I am just thinking that when the isolation, brought about the Covid19 has passed, we will have an appreciation about friends, acquaintances, networking and sharing. When we join a club or community group we may not realise that the people we meet could form the foundation of our network for interaction, enjoyment, discussions and in particular a means of sharing our thoughts, ideas, day to day tribulations and actions. It is clearer now to understand how valuable this could become during lonesome times. Imagine being able to reach for the phone and talk gardening, movies, books, study, family, sport, pets, and the list gets longer the more one thinks about it. If you feel too shy to approach people just imagine ways to get into a conversation, like saying "I just moved house", "I was reared in the country", "gardening is one of my favourite pass-times", "where do your parents live", and so on, which are easy talking points to kick start a chat. Remember there is a saying "If you give a bit, you get a bit."
Build a network around you. There will be some solid people who seem to have their "head screwed on" and whose opinion could be worth seeking when making decisions. Always keep in contact with people who are important to you. In times of stress or misfortune these are the people to turn to. They will be there to lend an ear, give advice and opinions or a helping hand. Find a mentor - a person you can relate to. Chapter 12 reinforces the importance of networking. The bigger the network the less isolated and lonely we will feel.
