Sometimes things don't quite go to plan. When land or property is for sale and you make your bid relative to the listed price at the Real Estate office you expect the seller to honour the deal. This is not necessarily so even though the contract is signed by the buyer. The seller wanted more money for the land, and me being driven by principles said "no, take it, or leave it" as I felt this was unethical asking for more when the contract was signed. We were on holidays in 1974 and just stumbled onto this piece of land at River Heads, on the side of a hill with nice views towards the ocean. It was not a critical decision but it was land with a very attractive aspect. As it transpired the owner of the land was a teacher and had changed his mind. Sometimes when an on the spot decision has to be made it can take you to another pathway; it turns out this guy did us a favour. As a result of the rejection we decided to add the sale of the second acreage block mentioned in a previous blog and purchase a workers cottage on 960sqm of land 13kls from the Brisbane City. Subsequently a large renovation was done and this is now my home.
